This is a pretty, romantic garden in Barnes. It combines mature formal planting and naturalistic perennials. So clipped bays and magnolia grandifloras combine with soft edged climbers and herbaceous plants.  Carefully selected items enhance a cottage flower garden style. Vintage furniture of oak tables and painted delicate chairs surround a herb garden and painted ‘feature’ shed.  Finally all these contribute to a green enclosed sanctuary amid a busy city.

The clients of this Victorian house in Earlsfield  wished for a small cottage garden. So a traditional oak pergola now supports a mature purple wisteria. The house side return is heavily planted with ceanothus, clematis, low campanulas and violas.  Additionally, this side wall is made special with  a bespoke ceramic sculpture. The cottage flower garden also has beautiful urns and fruit trees. As a result, this garden feels welcoming, verdant and very personal to the client.

These images show some bespoke features for a family garden. Stacking logs, watering herbs and tending edible planting area is as important as playing on a grass lawn. Or having fun in a sand pit or on a large timber deck.  Silver birches and light airy planting makes for a fresh, informal and uplifting style. A painted, custom made log store matches in colour and material with a bespoke shed.  This is built creatively into the side return of the house. The shed is generous in size, pretty in colour and almost invisible from the garden.
